Trainer Bio - Barb
My family has a history of living with obesity, and I
was no different. A lifetime spent fighting excess weight and
eventually morbid obesity, I had pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, not to
mention the typical obstacles facing someone who can't move efficiently.
My initial reason for my "health quest" was not only for myself,
but for my mother. She was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood
pressure, and high cholesterol. When she was prescribed
several pills by her doctor and sent home with the words "you will be on
these medications for the rest of your life", I was very angry.
When I began researching diabetes, I became furious! She was just
diagnosed with a chronic disease that will most likely directly or
indirectly kill her and was sent home without any additional information?
At that point, my faith in the medical profession was shaken greatly.

As time passed I became to
realize that YOU are responsible for taking care of your body through
proper exercise, diet and rest. You must take charge of your
wellness. Take the time to care for your body, stop the
excuses why you "can't" exercise, diet and get enough sleep. If you
do these simple things, you are way ahead of the majority of our
population. Even after I began to lose weight and
started working out, I was still angry. There is so much mis-information
when it comes to diet and exercise. I saw a magazine cover
recently that proclaimed "lose 12 pounds in 1 week". This type of
marketing is outright garbage, but we all wished it were
true. When it doesn't work, we feel like failures. I
finally realized I could stay angry and complain, or I could do something
to bring about change.
My beginning weight was 245 lbs., I now weigh 133 lbs.
Mom started off wearing a size 24 - 26, and now is in a size 6.
Eventually she found a fabulous doctor and is now doing extremely well.
I am certified through NASM, the National
Association of Sports Medicine, and have spent the last several years
researching fitness and diet. I continue to learn everything I can
on improving wellness through exercise and diet. I am also
certified as a Fitness Nutrition Coach through NESTA, the National
Exercise & Sports Trainer Association.
Prior to shifting my career to personal training, I
worked as a consultant for several years in Houston and have coached many
of my clients in areas of goal setting, implementing life/career changes,
how to think outside the box, and more. My coaching background
is of great benefit to my personal training clients.
Your success when you decide to take charge of your
wellness is very important to me. I am not a personal trainer
doing "this" to earn a buck. I am passionate about the
benefits of personal training because I know the stakes. Your
health is at stake, and there are people who love you dearly and need you
as healthy as possible.
My commitment to each of my
clients:
-
To listen to your needs and help you establish goals.
-
Build an individualized program to meet your needs and
goals safely.
-
To keep your workouts fresh and interesting.
-
You will be my only focus during our sessions.
-
I will make every attempt to keep you motivated.
-
To share my knowledge, because an educated client is
more likely to maintain and continue to improve their fitness and wellness
levels.
-
To be accessible to my clients between sessions.
Even though obesity initially introduced me to the
benefits of personal training, it isn't only for those who want to lose
weight. When you are ready to increase your strength, build muscle,
improve flexibility, why not give me call? We can start your
program today!
